You think it’s the disease – and there’s NOTHING you can do as you watch a loved one with dementia suddenly and rapidly decline.
Sometimes, it happens before your eyes in a matter of weeks… or even days.
But new research reveals the TRUE CULPRIT in many cases -- and it’s NOT always the disease.
It’s the TREATMENT!
The problem, in this case, isn’t a single med. That would be easy enough to watch out for.
It’s a MIX of meds – certain combinations that can get inside the already-struggling brain, and scramble it like an egg.
So, if you have a loved one with dementia, it’s time for a medicine check – because I’ve got the inside word on the drug combinations that people with this disease should NEVER take.
The most dangerous combinations for dementia
Here’s what I like to call the SPREEN RULE for anyone with newly diagnosed cognitive decline… dementia… or suspected dementia…
Eliminate as many meds as you can.
ALL of them, if possible -- even if you can only get away with it for a short period of time.
ANY drug on its own could turn your brain into squash.
But when they’re COMBINED? They can leave you loopier than a lush at closing time.
Cutting the meds doesn’t ALWAYS make a difference…
But you’d probably be STUNNED at how many people improve SIGNIFICANTLY… or even recover COMPLETELY… with that single step.
But most docs don’t follow the SPREEN RULE. Instead of eliminating meds… they often ADD some.
The new study shows how 1 in 7 dementia patients still living at home – some 166,000 older folks – are taking 3 or more brain-scrambling meds.
Specifically, they’re on drugs that act on the central nervous system…
And include everything from painkillers such as opioids and gabapentin… to antidepressants… sleeping pills… antipsychotics… benzodiazepines… hypnotics… anti-epileptics… and more.
In combination, they can lead to:
- falls and/or injuries
- respiratory struggles
- delirium, and
I’ve saved the WORST for last.
They can WORSEN cognitive problems… leading to a FASTER decline into dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
The researchers say they expected to see this kind of drug overuse in nursing homes… but were STUNNED to find it’s happening OUTSIDE of them, too.
There’s NO escaping it!
If you have a loved one with dementia, it’s time to insist on the SPREEN RULE.
Make an appointment to go over ALL of the meds… seeing what can be ELIMINATED or at least PAUSED safely.
If you’re not getting anywhere with a conventional doc… arrange to see a naturopathic physician.
He’ll not only help eliminate unneeded drugs… but he’ll also work to find safer natural options that can take the place of common meds.
And don’t stop there…
Continue the detox by SWITCHING to an all-natural diet with ZERO processed foods and ZERO “franken-food” GMOs.
