Cut your risk of macular degeneration by almost 50 percent
Want to keep your eyesight throughout your golden years? Eat more fish.
Scientists recently found that eating it might cut your risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) by almost 50 percent. This is really big news as AMD is the leading cause of blindness among older adults!
For the study, researchers examined the eating habits of 38,000 women. They tracked the women over the next 10 years to see who developed AMD.
Researchers found a clear link between fish intake and macular degeneration. You see, oily fish such as salmon contain plenty of omega-3 fatty acids. Your probably already know these nutrients promote cardiovascular health. But they also improve blood flow to your eyes.
That‘s why the women who ate fish once or twice a week faired much better. They were 42 percent less likely to develop AMD compared to women who ate fish just once a month.
If you don‘t eat fish twice a week, you can always take a fish oil supplement. Just make sure to throw at least 400 IU of all-natural vitamin E too. This powerful antioxidant will zap any free radicals generated the fish oil.
