Speaking of mom's, aren't they also the ones who taught us that "an apple a day keeps the doctor away"? Do you think she knew about the antioxidants in apples way back when?
Well, it looks like Mom is really on a roll here because once again her advice is paying off.
According to a study published in the Journal of Leukocyte Biology the antioxidants in apples...called polyphenols...have shown great promise as a natural anti-inflammatory.
Researchers tested apple polyphenols on mice and found that the antioxidants in apples suppressed T cell activation preventing colitis...an inflammation of the lining of the colon...in the mice. And, of course, this finding could lead to treatments for all kinds of other bowel-inflammation problems as well including Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and even colorectal cancers.
Now let's just hope that the scientists stick to the natural apple polyphenols when developing these new therapies. Because you and I both know that as soon as Big Pharma gets its grubby little hands on the research a patented, expensive, and synthetic version is likely not very far behind.
